Reinhard Plank
DESIGN, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND MADE IN ITALY
It all began in Vienna, where Reinhard Plank, through the curious eyes of a young Industrial Design student, explored the deep connection between humans and objects, and the complex interaction between people.
His research led to the creation of everyday objects that tell delicate connections, such as a thin glass casing for roses that protects both the flower and the hand from the thorns, creating an encounter of vulnerability and care. His research did not stop in Vienna. In Spain, Reinhard discovered a new dimension that deeply enriched his work: craftsmanship. A wicker mattress, created during his stay in Villoruela, a small village near Salamanca, encapsulates this transition, where the marks of an absent body emerge from the surface, transforming the emptiness into a presence.
In 2004, Reinhard embarked on his journey into the world of hat-making. A journey that began with the experimental use of felt, a material typical of South Tyrol, his homeland, transformed into protective cases for delicate objects, and culminated in the creation of the Classico: a hat that wraps the head like a protective shell, a refuge that welcomes and reassures.
Today, Reinhard works in his workshop immersed in the Florentine countryside, surrounded by nature and his team. Just like twenty years ago, the Classico and all the other hats are made with the same care and passion, shaped and sewn by hand in Italy, using the finest materials. Observation, experimentation, and lightness are the key elements behind every creation.
